Pistorius Murder Trial: Defence Witnesses Denies Hearing a Woman Scream

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on May 6, 2014

More witnesses are beginning to testify at the trial of South Africa Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius, as the defence team seeks to prove the double amputee killed his girlfriend by mistake.

Two of Mr Pistorius closest neighbours, Michael Nhlengethwa and his wife, Eontle, on Tuesday, contradicted prosecution witnesses testimony, saying they did not hear a woman scream.

Both next-door neighbour couple said they heard a man crying loudly on the night of Reeva Steenkamp murder.

I saw Oscar kneeling next to the lady, he was just crying, the witness said.

Eontle, also testifying said she heard the loud sound of a male persons voice crying help, help, help.

A ballistic expert is expected to take the stand later on Tuesday.

Pistorius denies intentionally killing her and says he mistook her for an intruder.

The trial adjourned early on Monday after defence lawyer Barry Roux failed to get further witnesses to court following a two-week adjournment over the Easter Break.

If found guilty, the 27-year-old dubbed the Blade Runner because of the prosthetic limbs with which he conquered the tracks- could face life imprisonment.

If he is acquitted of murder, the court must consider an alternative charge of culpable homicide, for which he could spend 15 years in prison.

Miss Steenkamp was a celebrity TV star, a model, and law graduate.

Pistorius also faces charges of illegally firing a gun in public and of illegally possessing ammunition, both of which he denied.

Old Trafford Farewell: Vidic Set for Final United Home Appearance

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on May 6, 2014

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic plays his final home game for the Premier League champions against Hull City on Tuesday night.

The Serbia international might not be the only United player bidding farewells to the home crowd at Old Trafford tonight, with the most decorated Premier League player Ryan Giggs likely to be making his final competitive outing for the club, should he name himself for the tie against Steve Bruces men.

United skipper Vidic is joining Inter Milan as a free agent this summer after eight successful years at Old Trafford, during which time he has scored 21 goals in 298 games, with his biggest haul in a single season being five as United claimed the title in 2010-11.

Vidic Last Scored at Old Trafford Against Bayern Munich in a Champions League Semi-Final First Leg Tie.

He has won five Premier League titles, one Champions League, three League Cups, five Community Shields and one Fifa Club World Cup.

I havent cried yet, but you never know what will happen with your emotions, the 32-year-old defender said.

Its sad to go after so many years but Im just glad I was part of club.

Giggs, taking charge of his penultimate game as temporary United boss, could make his 963rd appearance for United against The Tigers.

When asked whether the home match against Hull could be his last chance to play at home for his career-long club, Giggs said: It might dawn on me on Monday or Tuesday. then I might have to put myself on the bench.

Giggs, 40, has amassed 13 Premier League titles. four FA Cups, four League Cups, two Champions Leagues and one World Club Cup having joined United as a 14-year-old.

The perfect scenario would be me coming on and scoring but football doesnt work like that, he added.

The clubs longest-serving player was named interim boss in his 24th season following last months sacking of David Moyes.

Vidic joined united from Spartak Moscow for £7m in 2005, while academy revelation Giggs made his debut as a 17-year-old in 1991.

The defender thanks supporters for their support during his time at the club.

As we didnt do well this season, that walk around Old Trafford wont be the same after many years where we have always been celebrating something after the final game, Vidic said.

Now, it has become a chance to thank the fans for supporting us this year. I think this is definitely the least that we can do.

United Beat Hull City on an Emotional Old Trafford Night

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on May 7, 2014

Manchester United sealed a 3-1 win over Hull City in their penultimate and final home game of the Premier League season on Tuesday, same night Nemaja Vidic said goodbye to the Old Trafford crowd.

James Wilson, 18, scored a brace on his debut, Matty Fryatt pulled a goal back for ‘The Tigers’ before substitute Robin van Persie completed scoring for the hosts.

Ryan Giggs came on for possibly the final time at the club ground, with his contract due to run out this summer, and the Serbian defender replaced the injured Phil Jones in an emotional farewell.

James WIlson Celebrates His First League Goal for Manchester United.

On the back of last weekend’s narrow home loss to Sunderland, the hosts braced up for all possibility of letting the season go from bad to awry. The winds of change sweeping through the corridors of Old Trafford had even Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand out of the squad, while goal hero, Wilson and another young forward Tom Lawrence got their shots.

It took Wilson 31 minutes to register his first team account when he pounced on a Marrouaine Fallaini’s knock-down in the box to rifle home the opening goal.

The teenage debutante bagged his second goal of the night a minute after the hour mark, following a link up play between Adnan Januzaj and Fellaini, and the latter’s rebound was clinically tucked into the net by Wilson.

Hull’s Fryatt immdediately responded with a stunning 25-yard effort, which flew past Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea.

But Van Persie, in only his second appearance since single-handedly aiding United through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a hat-trick against Olympiakos, sealed victory on 86 minutes. The Dutchman followed up a rebound of his own shot to rifle past Eldin Jakupovic.

The home team remained on the pitch after final whistle and their interim-boss, whose probable final appearance at Old Trafford did not bring a goal, was handed the microphone; at which moment it dawned on many of the ‘Red Devils’ faithful Giggs may have just had a testimonial.

(Possibly) Giggs Curtain Call: The Welshman Addressed the Old Trafford Crowd Following Uniteds 3-1 Win Over Hull.

The 40-year-old longest-serving clubman said: “Id just like to say a big thank you from all the players and all the staff for your support this year. A special thanks to Nemanja [Vidic] who is leaving us this year. He goes with all our best wishes for success in the coming years.

We know its been tough this season and over the years weve been spoilt with the success weve had but youve always supported the team and the staff and Im sure in the coming years well bring you more success.

Id just like to say keep supporting us, youve seen a little glimpse of the future, we always play attractive football keep supporting us and the good times will come back soon.

Vidic, 32, will be joining Inter Milan next season after nine successful seasons in Manchester, bid an emotional farewell to the club supporters.

Vidic said: “I had so many great time here. It is hard to speak because of the emotions. Most important I would like to thank the players, the manager and all the coaches. Thank you for everything and especially to the fans, you have been fantastic to me all these years.

It was all cheers for every other player, as those three points mean United can still finish sixth if results go their way on the final day of the season. They would need to beat Southampton away from home and hope Tottenham lose to Aston Villa at White Hart Lane for that to happen.

I said when I took over I wanted to bring excitement back. Some of the forward play from the three young lads was brilliant,” Giggs added.

Nemanja Vidic Says Goodbyes At Old Trafford.

We got the young lads in to train with us and they never looked out of place. I wanted to freshen things up from Saturday and they never let us down. James Wilson is not just a finisher, his all-round play is very good and he is exciting.

My concentration has not changed, I will do my job on and off the pitch and we will see what happens after Sunday. The fans have kept supporting us and they will carry on supporting us.”

It was hard in many ways, because it was my last game at Old Trafford, we did not have a great year as it was my first year not celebrating a trophy. It was a tough season,” admitted Vidic.

It is the board to decide but Ryan has a real talent to be the manager and a good manager. If he is not successful this time then in the future he should be considered to be manager of this club.
